How a winner is picked

One function picks every winner. The faucet, this site and your browser all run the same code, so they cannot disagree. Here it is in plain words, then exactly.

  1. 1Every 24th block (about every four hours) is a draw block.
  2. 2The six collections take turns, so each gets one draw a day.
  3. 3The block's hash picks one piece from that collection's frozen list. Every piece has exactly the same chance.
  4. 4Pieces that have not moved since block 840,000 count twice (the OG Mark).
  5. 5If the holder's address cannot receive a prize, the hash picks again.
  6. 6The prize is a third of the ETCHY ready to give: $25 to $250, at most $750 a day.

Exactly

WhenAt every block height divisible by 24, about every four hours. The faucet decides it after 3 confirmations, from that block's hash alone. If the block is reorged away before a payout, the draw is decided again from the new block.
Which slot(height ÷ 24) mod 6, in the order of the table below. Every slot gets one draw a day.

The pickThe first 8 bytes of seed_k, as an unsigned 64-bit integer, modulo the list size, by exact rejection sampling: a value at or above the largest multiple of the list size below 2⁶⁴ is skipped, so every piece has exactly the same chance.
The OG MarkA piece whose holder output was created below block 840,000 stands when picked. A piece without the mark stands only if the lowest bit of the 9th seed byte is 0. That is exactly double odds for marked pieces.
The holderThe owner of the inscription's output after every spend confirmed at or before the draw block, traced first-in first-out from its reveal transaction. Only Taproot (bc1p) holders are eligible; anyone else and the hash picks again. After 256 picks without a winner, the prize rolls over.
The prizeETCHY•FUN on Bitcoin, sent through Etchy's bridge “To Bitcoin” from the faucet's Solana wallet. Each gift is a third of the ETCHY ready to give, at least $25 and at most $250, at most $750 a day.
ModesShadow: real draws, nothing sent. Live: gifts are sent. Replay: decided after the fact on the faucet's first boot.
